Our survey will be open from Monday 10 March to Sunday 6 April

About the proposed improvements

We are aiming to improve bus reliability and reduce bus journey times for buses travelling northbound on City Road (south) towards Old Street station by adding a new northbound bus lane on Finsbury Pavement, Finsbury Square and City Road between Ropemaker Street and the existing bus lane to the north of the junction of Epworth Street. The scheme also consists of converting two existing zebra crossings by Finsbury Square and Epworth Street into signalised crossings. These proposals aim to support people to use public transport and contribute to a greener and healthier Islington.

Our proposals include:

  • A new northbound section of bus lane between Epworth Street and Ropemaker Street – connecting into the existing northbound bus lane near Epworth Street, operating Monday to Saturday 7am-7pm.

  • Removing a short section of southbound bus lane between Epworth Street and Worship Street in order to make space for the northbound bus lane.

  • Converting existing pedestrian zebra crossings by Finsbury Square and Epworth Street into signalised ‘push button’ crossings.

  • Reducing the length of the existing taxi rank on the western side of Finsbury Pavement.

  • Changing the operational hours to some of the existing pay by phone parking bays on the western side of City Road (south).

  • Changing single yellow lines to double yellow lines.

Plans of the proposals are described below and you can also download plans from the Documents links on the right of this page.
