Consultation has concluded
As part of our work to make Islington cleaner, greener, and healthier, we are making to some improvements to Fortune Street Park following engagement with the local community and park users.
Between August and September 2021, we carried out an initial survey of local residents and park users to find out what kind of improvements to Fortune Street Park they would like to see. In March 2022, we also engaged with local schools and the key suggestions received informed a proposed design which we then consulted on between November 2022 and January 2023. We have finalised the design in line with the budget and feedback to date and have successfully appointed a contractor for the work which is estimated to start on site in early 2023 in time for completion by late spring 2024.
Proposed works include:
Relocating the growing garden to a sunnier spot
Refurbishing the existing play area. This will involve keeping some of the existing equipment, like the toddler swings, flower rocker and standing see-saw, and adding some new features that will include items that can be enjoyed by children with limited mobility or use a wheelchair, such as a ground-level trampoline and accessible roundabout
Additional planting throughout the park to enhance biodiversity, including new trees
Creation of a cafe garden area near to the coffee shop
Additional benches and litter bins
Re-seeding of worn areas of the lawn
A copy of the masterplan can be found in the Useful Documents section on the right of this page alongside copies of the engagement reports. These reports will help provide insight in to how the design has evolved over time.
