Background

Islington's 2023-2025 waste and recycling reduction plan sets out our goal to recycle 40% of the waste collected from households in Islington, to create a cleaner, greener, heathier borough.

To achieve this goal, we are committed to:

  • Providing all estates with enough recycling bins so that residents can recycle at all times
  • Placing recycling bins in a convenient location for residents
  • Maintaining recycling facilities to a good standard
  • Engaging with residents to achieve higher levels of recycling on our estates

By focusing on the objectives noted above, we aim to make it easier for residents to recycle more at Jack Walker Court.

The council plans to spend £2 million over the course of three years to ensure facilities on estates are clean, well-maintained and easy to use. Therefore, this project is not rechargeable to residents.

Jack Walker Court

Jack Walker Court does not have any communal recycling bins. Residents leave their recycling sacks outside for collection, but this often makes the estate look untidy, particularly as the wind can blow sacks and loose waste around the estate. This results in loose waste being collected as refuse and valuable resources lost from being recycled.

We propose installing communal recycling bins that are placed in enclosures, to allow residents to get rid of their recycling whenever they need to and keep the estate clean and tidy.

Please take a moment to read through the proposals saved under the supporting documents tab and let us know which location you would prefer using the quick poll tool at the bottom of the page. A summarised version of the proposals can be seen below.

Proposal

Option 1
We propose installing two recycling enclosures on the wide pavement next to block 27 and 32.

Option 2
We propose installing two enclosures for recycling on the green space at the front of the estate, facing Panmure Close. We will remove a section of the black railing and lay a concrete base for the enclosures to be fitted on. We will not interfere with the two trees in this area.

How to get involved

We would like to encourage all residents living on Jack Walker Court to read through the proposed changes above and let us know your preferred option by voting in the quick poll below. You can find a detailed version of the proposed options under the supporting documents tab. The quick poll will take less than 2 minutes to complete.

How we will use your feedback

Once the consultation is closed, we will review all responses, identify the preferred proposals and explore if any suggestions submitted are feasible to implement.

We will then communicate the final proposal we will be moving forward with to residents in December and implement changes in the new year.

All responses will remain anonymous and your data will not be shared with any third parties.
