What has happened so far?

The Gypsy and Traveller Local Plan Review has started with the public consultation on the ‘Scope of the Review’ paper which took place between March-April 2024.  This provided an opportunity to share initial views on what the review should include and provide feedback on the council’s proposed approach. Following the Scope of the Review consultation, the Council has commissioned the consultancy Three Dragons to undertake an independent site assessment to identify potential opportunities for Gypsy and Traveller sites in the borough. The first stage of the site assessment is to develop a methodology for assessing sites. The organisation London Gypsies and Travellers has also been commissioned to lead on engagement with local Gypsy and Traveller residents throughout the Gypsy and Traveller Local Plan review process.

Are any sites identified for Gypsy and Traveller accommodation?

No, not at this stage. Following this consultation, the consultancy Three Dragons will finalise the Site Assessment Methodology. Site proposals submitted through the Call for Sites, as well as sites from other sources (as set out in the consultation paper) will be assessed against the criteria. The consultants will produce an independent report with recommendations made for sites that might be considered suitable for Gypsy and Traveller accommodation.

    What happens next?

We will consider the responses received and any site suggestions submitted through the Call for Sites, and we will consult on a Draft Gypsy and Traveller Local Plan in Autumn 2025.
