We are currently proceeding with the installation of EV charge points following our earlier engagement and decision. Please check the table below for more details.

About the engagement

The Council is committed to improving air quality by making our roads greener and healthier. To help achieve this goal and support the shift to low emission vehicles for essential journeys, we have installed over 490 charge points across the borough.

Replacing petrol and diesel vehicles with electric vehicles will help to improve air quality by reducing harmful emissions such as nitrous oxide and carbon dioxide.

What we are proposing

To keep pace with the growing number of electric vehicles and demand for charge points, we plan to roll out a further 28electric vehicle dual connection fast charge sites across the borough by March 2025. This includes the creation of two electric vehicle spaces in the existing permit holder bay at each site.

These fast charge points (22kw) are quick and convenient for electric car users to charge their vehicles at locations across the borough.

The proposed locations are shown on the map and listed in the table below on this page.

How we identified the charge point locations

Many of the proposed charge points are located where resident requests have been received and identified a need for additional infrastructure.

The process we follow depends on the network operator and type of charge point. However, when investigating locations for new charge points, we have considered a wide range of matters such as:

  • parking restrictions

  • footway clearance widths

  • heritage restrictions

  • local demand

  • safety

  • site conditions

Have your say

Therefore, between 22 November and 20 December 2024 we are offering you a chance to have your say on the proposals and to influence the development of electric vehicle charging infrastructure in the borough.

To tell us your views, please fill in our survey.
