About the project
Islington Council is committed to making recycling as easy and as convenient as possible for residents on estates. We believe recycling facilities on the Barnabas house don't offer you enough recycling points or enough capacity for you to recycle everything that you can.
We have developed proposals for improving recycling and food waste facilities at Barnabas house and welcome your views. These proposals have been developed in partnership with your local housing officers and caretakers following several site visits. The improvement proposals include:
The creation of new and convenient to get to recycling sites.
Move the recycling bins into the estate grounds for the exclusive use of residents.
Increase the quantity and quality of the recycling bins to accommodate more items.
Build an enclosure to protect the recycling bins from weather, vandalism, and pests.
Enhance the appearance and cleanliness of our estate.
Co-location of recycling bins, rubbish bins and food waste bins for your convenience.
Improving the signs and recycling information on the estate.
Giving residents the opportunity to recycle more items on the estate.
Improve the entrance to Kings Square Gardens
Any improvements will be fully funded and will not be recharged to residents.
As you may know, the current arrangement has two recycling bins and two food waste recycling bins located across the road outside the estate grounds by the park entrance gate.
Recycling facilities for estate residents should be located within the grounds of the estate for the convenience of residents, along with other waste facilities, and we therefore propose to relocate the recycling and food waste bins into the estate grounds.
We have discussed potential options with the housing team and with the estate TRA (Tenant Resident Association) and would like to propose four options for new, improved recycling facilities. These options are shown on the map. Our recommendation would be for a combination of more than one facility to make it as easy as possible for residents to recycle.

Thank you for taking part in this consultation for the improvement of the recycling facilities on Barnabas house. Please see the final outcomes of the consultation below.
We asked you to choose between four options A,B,C, D for improving recycling on the estate. As a result of the consultation , option B was selected by residents. Option B included the relocation of the recycling facilities to the front of the block.
The improvement works on the estate will begin in February 2024.
