About the project
Islington Council is committed to making recycling as easy and convenient as possible for our residents on estates. We believe recycling facilities on the Bemerton (north) estate don't offer you enough recycling points or enough capacity for you to recycle everything that you can.
We have developed proposals for improving recycling facilities across the estate and welcome your views on these proposals. These proposals have been developed in partnership with your local housing officers and caretakers following a number of site visits. The improvement proposals include:
Increased number of recycling bins on the estate to ensure there is always enough room for recycling.
Creation of new and convenient to get to recycling areas including for food waste, textiles and small electrical items.
Co-location of recycling and food waste bins.
Installation of new accessible bins for residents with disabilities.
Improved signs with more information for residents.
Improvement works will be fully funded and delivered in this year's round of the Thriving Neighbourhoods Estate Investment Programme and will not be recharged to residents.
Get involved
We want to hear from you. Please take a few moments to review the proposals in the 'Supporting Documents' section on this page and complete the recycling survey below.
This will help us understand your views about recycling and help us to get these recycling improvement proposals right.
This consultation will be open to contributions until Tuesday 10 October 2023

Final report
Bemerton Estate Recycling Transformation is currently at this stage
Thank you for taking part in this consultation for the creation of new recycling and food waste areas on Bemerton (north) estate. Please see the final outcomes of the consultation below.
The proposed locations at Carnoustie Drive and Kinross House have been changed due to concerns related to fly-tipping and contamination of the recycling bins. Please see maps of the final agreed locations here. Maps of the new locations can also be found in the 'Supporting Documents' section on this page.
Clothes and electrical and electronic waste recycling banks will be installed on the estate. The banks will be located near the back entrance to Selkirk House.
No further changes have been made to the plans included in the improvement proposal as a result of this consultation. Site works will be carried out as planned and begin in January 2024.
