Blenheim Court – Improvements
About the project
We are working to make your estate's shared spaces safer and to discourage anti-social behaviour. We have been working in partnership with the local police to tackle ongoing issues. We have also been liaising with multiple teams across the Council to ensure that much needed recycling, lumber store and landscaping improvements are delivered.
Recycling area improvements
Following our drop-in we have reviewed the capacity and arrangement of the recycling proposals. We encourage you to go through these as several changes have been made. You can view the updated recycling proposal for the estate HERE. You can also view this by visiting the 'Important Documents' section located at the bottom of this page.
The new updated proposal includes.
- increased number of recycling and refuse bins in new fire-proof bin enclosures with updated signs
- increased number of recycling and refuse locations across the estate
- installation of accessible design bins for residents with disabilities.
- food waste recycling bins at most locations with new enclosures to prevent odour and improve the look of the area
By increasing capacity, ensuring a regular collection, reliable and conveniently located recycling and refuse bins, and by improving the way recycling sites look and are maintained, we aim to make it easier for residents to recycle as much as possible.
Please take a few moments to also complete our Recycling Survey located at the bottom of this page. Your feedback will help us understand your views about recycling, and help us to get these recycling improvement proposals right.
All recycling comments and feedback should be directed to Nicole.Blagoeva@islington.gov.uk by 11.59pm on Friday 31 January 2025.
Lumber store improvements
Following the revision of the recycling areas we now plan to install the lumber where the refuse bins are near 71-82. We will be upgrading the area and screening off the space so that the lumber is contained, keeping the estate looking tidy and well cared for.
Further information on the types of screens are available to view in the 'Important Documents' located at the bottom of this page.
All lumber store comments and feedback should be directed to Thrivingneighbourhoods@islington.gov.uk by 11.59pm on Friday 31 January 2025.
Security improvements
Please click HERE to view the design information that was shared with residents at the drop-in session in October. You can also view the design information in the 'Important Documents' section of this page. We are proposing to install eight high quality steel gates / doors on the ground floor to enclose all the internal communal areas and ensure that only residents can access the buildings. All affected properties will be equipped with an intercom handset that is connected to the main intercom system. Access control will be fob operated.
A planning application was submitted on the 6 December and the process typically takes 12 weeks. We will send an update in early March, once planning has a made a decision.
The maintenance and servicing of gates will be charged through rent and service charge.
All security comments and feedback should be directed to Eva.Nyandoro@islington.gov.uk
Play and landscaping
We have awarded funding for upgrading the communal garden areas once the security and recycling areas have been delivered. At the drop-in, we received valuable feedback from residents on the types of play and landscaping they would like to see in these areas.
Residents will have further opportunities to feed into these improvements when we engage with you in Summer 2025.
Funding
All the above improvements will be fully funded by Islington and therefore will not be recharged to residents. The maintenance and servicing of these new facilities will be charged through rent and service charge.
