We are consulting on proposed safety improvements a the junction of St Paul's Road, Newington Green Road, Balls Pond Road and Essex Road.

Islington Council is proposing to implement various road marking and safety measures on the four arms of the junction of St Paul's Road, Newington Green Road, Balls Pond Road and Essex Road.

The details of our proposals are as follows:

  • St Paul's Road: Installing a 'School Keep Clear' road marking outside an access point to St Paul's Steiner School. We are also proposing to refresh the existing road markings heading towards the junction of Newington Green Road. This includes the existing stop lines and the southern bus cage on St Paul's Road.
  • Newington Green Road: Refreshing the existing road markings heading towards the junction of Balls Pond Road. This includes the existing centre lines and stop lines.
  • Balls Pond Road: Removing the existing illuminated bollards on the traffic island and replacing them with traffic rebound bollards. We are also proposing to refresh the advanced stop lines.
  • Essex Road: We are proposing to reduce an existing triangular island to allow safer two-way traffic lanes; replace the existing illuminated bollards with traffic rebound bollards on the centre island; extend the centre island to make the footway safer for people walking and wheeling; and refresh lining of the advanced stop lines.
