Consultation has concluded
We are committed to improving the borough’s air quality by making our streets greener and healthier. To help achieve this goal and support the shift to low emission vehicles for essential journeys, the council has installed 245 lamp column charging points across the borough to date. Replacing petrol and diesel vehicles with Electric Vehicles (EV) will help to improve air quality by reducing harmful emissions such as nitrous oxide and carbon dioxide.
What we are proposing
We are proposing to install 73 new electric vehicle charging points in lamp columns close to your property. The full list of sites including those proposed for your street can be found at the end of this page
The proposed lamp column charging points will not have dedicated electric vehicle bays and no changes will be made to existing parking controls. Residents who have an appropriate permit will be able to continue to park on the resident bays adjacent to the charging points whether they have an electric vehicle or not.
Lamp column charge points provide slow charging (approx. 5kW) which is suitable for residents to charge electric vehicles when parking near their home for long periods. These charging points are easy to use and require little or no space on the street.
If the projects go ahead, before installing the charge points, the lamp columns will be subject to electrical checks. The first installations are likely to happen in early 2024 and works are expected to take approximately one hour per charging point. There will be a partial closure of the footway around the lamp columns during the works.
How we identified the proposed charging locations
The process we follow depends on the network operator and type of charging point. However, when investigating locations for new charging points, we have considered a wide range of matters such as:
parking restrictions
footway clearance widths
heritage restrictions
local demand
Have your say
Therefore, between Monday 18 December and Sunday 28 January 2024 we are offering you a chance to have your say on the proposals and to influence the development of EV charging infrastructure in the borough.

The closing date for this survey is 11.59pm on Sunday 28 January.
This survey should take around 10 -15 minutes to complete. Mandatory questions are marked with an asterisk *.
