Consultation outcome

As a result of the responses from the residents consultation we will be taking the following actions:

  • an increased number of recycling bins to ensure residents can recycle as much as possible
  • co-location of refuse, recycling and food waste bins
  • new recycling and refuse bins enclosures for all bins to improve the look and functionality of the area
  • we will be consulting with colleagues from Housing on the installation of new electrical recycling bank for the estate as requested by residents. This is subject to approval and any updates relating to the outcome will be published here
  • new accessible design bins and enclosures will be provided for residents with disabilities
  • provision of new and improved signage for all refuse and recycling bin enclosures with more information for residents
  • all proposed recycling and refuse locations in the improvement proposal will remain unchanged

These improvements will aim to enhance waste management, increase recycling and recycling efficiency, and overall community satisfaction.

About the project

Islington Council is committed to making recycling as easy and convenient as possible. We think the current recycling bins on Girdlestone Walk Estate are in need of improvement to ensure you can recycle as much as possible. Following a number of visits with your caretakers and housing officers, we developed a proposal for improving recycling facilities on the estate that includes:

  • an increased number of recycling bins to ensure residents can recycle as much as possible
  • an increased number of recycling locations across the estate
  • installation of new recycling bin enclosures for all bins to improve the look of the recycling area
  • installation of 'accessible design' recycling bins for residents with disabilities
  • improved recycling signage

Improvement works will be fully funded and delivered in this years' round of the Thriving Neighbourhoods Estate Investment Programme and will not be recharged to residents.
