Islington Greener Together
Islington Council launched Round Two of the Islington Greener Together programme in February 2024, inviting residents, businesses, and community groups—with support from their neighbours—to submit ideas to green publicly accessible spaces in their neighbourhoods. With the support of the council, local people can bring their ideas to life and make their streets greener. One of these streets is Godson Street, where local people have told us that they would like to introduce greening along the street.
Godson Street
Godson Street is a pedestrianised street situated between Chapel Market and White Lion Street, within the Barnsbury Ward.
Co-design workshop
In November 2024 we held a co-design workshop, which local people could register to attend. During the workshop attendees took part in a design exercise, where they shared their ideas and marked up plans to show where and what types of changes they would like to see take place on Godson Street. The suggestions made were then used to help shape the initial design proposal for Godson Street that we are now sharing for feedback.
Initial design proposal
Our initial design proposes the following at Godson Street:
The introduction of 12 one-meter by one-meter wooden planters, arranged in clusters with the planters at different heights.
The existing cycle stands at the southern point of Godson Street are proposed to be relocated a few metres into the centre of the street. Three additional cycle stands are proposed for the northern point of the street.
The removal of the three bollards that are currently located at the southern point of Godson Street. Two planters would be installed in their place to prevent motor vehicles from entering Godson Street.
The introduction of seating as part of the planters at the southern point of Godson Street.
Below you can view the initial design proposal:
Tell us what you think about the proposal
To share your views on the initial design proposal, please complete our survey (below) by midnight on Sunday 2 March 2025.
In addition to the survey, we will also be holding an engagement session on Wednesday 26 February 2025, between 6pm and 6.45pm. During the session, attendees can share their feedback and ask officers question regarding the initial design proposal. The feedback received via the survey and during the engagement session will help inform any changes to the final design proposal for Godson Street
If you would like to attend the workshop, please register your interest by following the link here (External link) and completing the form. You can also sign up in-person at Islington Town Hall reception (N1 2UD). We will confirm your place and details of the location by email or phone; please only attend if you receive this confirmation, as spaces are limited. Priority will be given to residents and businesses within close proximity to the project.
Following the feedback period (Monday 17 February 2025 – Sunday 2 March 2025), we will use the feedback received to help inform any changes to the final design proposal for Godson Street. Once the design has been finalised, we will aim to begin installation of the proposal in spring 2025.
