Improving energy efficiency in your home
We are seeking your feedback to help residents save energy, lower their energy bills, create warmer homes, and reduce carbon emissions. Energy use in homes is a significant contributor to carbon emissions, and improving energy efficiency can make a big difference. Improving energy efficiency in the home is part of our Climate Action work.
Why retrofit?
Retrofitting involves upgrading existing homes to improve energy efficiency and reduce heat loss. It can range from large-scale improvements, like solar panels and insulation, to smaller DIY upgrades, such as using radiator foil or switching to LED bulbs. Together, these changes can help reduce costs, carbon emissions, and energy use.
Get involved
Your feedback will help us shape future services and create resources to support residents in making energy efficiency improvements to their homes.
Please complete our short survey; it will take approximately five minutes.
The survey closes on Tuesday 18 February at 11.59pm.
Current council support on retrofit
Alongside the council’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions from our housing stock, we are also looking to support residents on their own journey toward retrofit and energy efficiency.
Some of our current services and projects include:
- SHINE: A free energy advice and fuel poverty referral network for Londoners
- Courses and workshops: We run free and paid energy-saving and retrofit courses
- Climate Action Supplementary Planning Document: Currently out for public consultation
- Retrofit Handbook: Currently out for public consultation
We are committed to expanding support for residents, including advice tailored to different types of home, such as rental tenants or owner-occupiers. We will use this survey to help us better understand the support we can offer, whether through Islington-specific retrofit examples, energy-saving advice videos, or DIY energy guidance and workshops.
