Improvements to Isledon Gardens
We are determined to create a greener, healthier Islington. As part of this, we are making some improvements to Isledon Gardens, N7.
We are pleased to say that work is scheduled to commence on 27th May 2024 and is expected to take about 18 weeks. During this period the park will remain closed to the public.
The proposed works to the sunken garden include:
Removal or reduction in height of shrub planting around the garden;
Thinning out and crown lifting the hornbeam trees to the east of the sunken garden to improve views into and out of the space;
Reduction in height of the free-standing walls around the space, and removal of the walls, brick piers and railings to the western side of the sunken garden;
Recycling the existing clay block paving and re-laying to a new simplified layout;
Creation of a central damp garden, with informal stone boulder footpath. The damp garden will receive rainwater run-off from the adjacent new hard surfaces;
New metal estate fence to the western boundary, to maintain clear views into the space from Iseldon Road.
New robust, low planting with seasonal interest;
Specimen tree, with a high canopy to the damp garden to maintain clear views across the space.
Refurbishment of some of the existing benches and relocating them around the space.
Monitoring the vegetation and trees, cutting back any seasonal growth that obstructs sight lines where necessary. We have already cut back lots of vegetation and undertaken tree works to improve sight lines.
The proposed works to the playground include:
Removal of the existing play equipment which is used for ASB;
Removal of the canopy, brick piers, steps, slide and rubber slope;
Construction of a new wet pour rubber slope against the existing brick retaining wall.
Two slides and timber climbing play equipment on the new slope;
Replace existing wet pour rubber surfacing;
New fencing to the playground boundary.
