Grovedale Estate (Levison Way) Communal Play Spaces
Islington Council and the Thriving Neighbourhoods programme is committed to improving and transforming shared spaces on estates in Islington, with the intention of leaving a legacy that positively benefits the residents and builds on strengthening the community.
We are working in partnership with residents, to provide them with an opportunity to tell us what improvements they want to see and be actively involved in making a positive change to their communities and neighbourhoods.
Great news! We are upgrading the communal play space at Levison Way rejuvenating it back into an attractive community space for all to use.
This is an opportunity for you to tell us what improvements you want to see and be actively involved in making a positive change to your community and neighbourhood. We want you to be proud of where you live and be empowered to make a positive difference.
We are looking to implement projects that promote community cohesion, allowing people to come together and improve their mental and physical wellbeing.
The agreed design
Following on from our engagement we have agreed upon a design that combines the two areas to transform the space into a communal multi-level area that integrates the infant and junior inclusive play with increased seating, planting, cycle storage, and general accessibility improvements.
How you can get involved
All residents living on Grovedale Estate, Bowerman Court, Levison Way, Turpin Way were invited to complete a survey on how they would like to see the spaces used and this has now closed. We have developed agreed design which has been shared with residents for your feedback.
How we will use your feedback
All survey responses have been reviewed and we have developed a final design from these.
Pop Up
We are held a pop-up event on 4th June 2024 from 3 - 6pm where residents had further opportunity to share their opinions for the spaces and talk to us about the proposals.
Current Stage
Following feedback on the initial designs and the pop up event design have been revised and shared with residents on the 4 December via letter (this letter is available to view in the 'important documents' section of this page.
A contractor has now been appointed and site set up works are due to start on site w/c 16th December.
The work on the play area is expected to take 9 weeks, weather permitting. During the installation, our contractors will be working in line with a safe system of work. However, we ask that you exercise caution as the works commence.
Your normal route of access to your home may be affected during the installation, and the contractor will make every effort possible to avoid any obstruction and direct you safely. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.
Next steps
We will write to you again upon completion of the works and celebrate the new space in Spring 2025
