This consultation has concluded please see outcomes below:

  • Withdrawn proposals: Proposed recycling sites at 1-35 Conistone Way, Bradley Close, Kerwick Close, Rydstone Close, and 92-148 Conistone Way have been withdrawn.
  • Removal and relocation of recycling sites: Existing sites on Sutterton Street and Conistone Way will be removed and relocated within the estate.
  • New recycling bin units: Each new recycling site will have 6 recycling bins, including accessible design ones for residents with disabilities.
  • Door-to-Door collections: These will continue for all first-floor properties with walkway access.
  • 1-6 Bradley Close and 1-7 Conistone Way: Door-to-door collections for residents living on the first floor will now be stopped due to health and safety risk to the collection crews. Residents will now be required to leave their recycling sacks for collection along Blundell Street on their recycling collection day (Tuesday). Residents of the above properties with disabilities will be able to request an assisted collection for their recycling.
  • Future Plans: We are exploring developing a new recycling chute for use by all residents at 1-6 Bradley Close and 1-7 Conistone Way. This will make it easier for residents to recycle and limit the risks associated with using the stairs to carry recycling.

If you live on the first floor at 1-6 Bradley Close and 1-7 Conistone Way and have a disability and require assistance with your recycling collection please contact: Mubarak.Jama@islington.gov.uk or Joseph.Bentley@islington.gov.uk

About the project

Islington Council is committed to making recycling as easy and as convenient as possible for residents on estates. However, we think current recycling facilities on Nailour Estate aren’t good enough and do not make it easy for you to recycle as much as possible. Following a number of site visits with your caretakers and housing officers we have developed a proposal for improving the recycling on the estate and the proposal includes:

  • door-to-door recycling and refuse collections will continue for residents living on the ground floor
  • door-to-door recycling collections for residents living on the first floor will be stopped due to health and safety risks to collection crews
  • new recycling areas will be created for all residents and new more accessible recycling bins will be provided for residents with disabilities
  • food waste service will be introduced on the estate. Food waste bins will be located within the new recycling areas
  • the current recycling areas on Conistone Way and Sutterton Street often become ‘contaminated’ with black sacks and unwanted refuse due to their location near the main road. These locations will be removed permanently
  • windows in the refuse chute stores are sometimes used to drop refuse into refuse bins below. This poses a serious health and safety risk to residents and the windows must be closed

Improvement works will be fully funded and delivered in this year's round of the Thriving Neighbourhoods Estate Investment Programme and will not be recharged to residents.

We want to hear from you. Please take a few moments to review the proposal in the 'Improvement Proposal' section on this page and complete the recycling survey at the bottom of the page.

Improvement plans also include location options, allowing residents to choose the position of the new recycling bins and enclosures. If you have a preferred location, or any other suggestions and comments, please submit these to me via e-mail at Nicole.Blagoeva@islington.gov.uk

This will help us understand your views about recycling and help us to get these recycling improvement proposals right.

This consultation will be open to contributions until 11.59pm Sunday 1 September.
