The planning department of Islington council is preparing a new Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) on the subject of reducing carbon emissions from the borough's buildings. The SPD will provide information for residents, property owners and developers on how to ensure their planning proposals are compliant with planning policies and are designed to minimise carbon emissions.

On this webpage you will be able to keep up-to-date with the development of the SPD, view associated documents, and engage in any public consultation.

A Scoping Paper has been prepared to outline the possible focus areas for the SPD and this can be downloaded from this webpage. We are seeking feedback from all stakeholders that the SPD will be of value to and would like to know your views.

A number of workshops have already been held to engage with different stakeholder groups to understand the potential scope for the SPD. Feedback from participants of these workshops was recorded and can be found on this webpage under the FAQs section.

To have your say on the development of the Net Zero Carbon SPD, please read the Scoping Paper available to download on this webpage and complete the survey on this webpage. Alternatively, you can complete the form at the end of the Scoping Paper and email it to netzeroplanning@islington.gov.uk

The formal consultation period for feedback on the Scoping Paper closes on 29th September, however responses will still be accepted and considered if received after this date.

A draft version of the SPD will be developed taking into consideration the feedback received on the Scoping Paper. This will clearly state the council's position in relation to retrofit proposals and applications for new development. There will be a formal consultation period of at least six weeks when the draft SPD is shared later this year and further engagement activity will take place to complement this.
