Safer Spaces Tollington survey
Survey results
Thank you to everyone who took part in our survey. We want to share some feedback with you.
In December 2024, we sent a newsletter to 3,500 residents in Tollington and all survey participants on the Safer Spaces Tollington web page. We asked for your thoughts on the web page, how safe you feel in Tollington, and how we can improve. Here’s some of the feedback we received.
We also picked a winner from the participants. We’ll contact them to give a £50 voucher as a thank you for sharing their views.

How would you improve the page?
“The map needs to communicate more clearly that you want multiple reports. I’ve spoken to neighbours who have said it’s already been reported which means issues will be under reported”
“It’s totally confusing. I already have an account for my bills with Islington council - it seems like I can’t use those details to log in here so have had to create a brand-new account. Confused as to why.”

Why do you feel this way?
“The smell of drugs everywhere lack of police patrol hear about more knife crimes”
“So many people on drugs causing issues still and shooting up in my front garden. We need more police patrols out”
“There’s constant drug dealing, drug taking, drug asb … street crime like muggings, phone snatching, shoplifting The amount of murders in N4 N7 N19 last 2 years is scary”
“I can manage the risks to my safety”
“Drug use is out of control. Other anti social behaviour on the rise. The police presence is abysmal despite what you say. In the email you said anti social behaviour reports have dropped 31% in the last two months. I would argue this is largely due to the cold weather more than anything”
“Lot of drug use/dealing/homeless”
What would make you feel safer in Tollington?
“Lighter/more street lighting. Deal with knife crimes by stronger sentences”
“More patrols and police presence”
“More police action. Our street has been reporting the same issues for years. Not much has changed tbh More police patrols, greater police presence … more funding for extra police & longer shifts. Crime doesn’t stop at 5pm The recent blitz & focus on issues locally is great but historically this occurs then the police presence disappears. So there’s never any real reduction as it just returns 3-4 weeks after. So a long term plan is needed The police ward thing from a geographical point of view is worthless as the dealers, drug users & criminals operate in Tollington & Finsbury Park The focus needs to joined up thinking The people at Finsbury Park tube are also seen operating in the Tollington Ward”
“More visible police presence”
“It is VITAL to give us more police presence on the streets. Police need to respond quicker when reports are lodged. Different police wards need to work closer together. It’s a joke that just by walking into a different ward, a criminal can’t be accosted because police aren’t cleared to work in that area”
“Faster response from council for clearing up rubbish and dogs mess. If the place looks run down it invites more crime”

What we’re doing next
The Safer Spaces Tollington project is a pilot. We hope to use similar projects in other areas to improve how we listen to and communicate with our communities.
We will use your feedback to improve our next project. Our goal is to make this platform as useful as possible.
We will continue to use the information you shared. This will help us target locations you identified and concerns you raised. An update will be posted next week to outline actions we are taking to address these issues.
We will hold an in-person event to listen and join with neighbours, community groups, councillors, council officers, and the local police team. Together, we will create a community response to improve safety in Tollington ward. Details for this event are here.
After this event, we will send out a newsletter to update residents on community safety in Tollington and share next steps.
This project has now been concluded
