Welcome to our dedicated page for the proposed improvements to Tufnell Park Playing Fields. Here you can learn more about what’s being proposed and can share your thoughts with us.

We are committed to creating a greener, healthier, and more equitable Islington. To support this vision, the Council has allocated capital funding for improvements at Tufnell Park Playing Fields.

Progress So Far

In 2023, we used some of the funding to implement essential rainwater drainage improvements to the football pitches. The remaining funds were set aside for a second phase of improvements.

Over the past few years, we have actively engaged with the ‘Friends of Tufnell Park Playing Fields’ through regular meetings. This dedicated group has provided valuable insight that has helped to shape the proposals.

Proposed Improvements

The proposed improvements are divided into two categories: Essential Improvements and Enhancements.

Essential Improvements: These are aligned with council policies and focus on the management of the park, including:

  • Extending the path adjacent to the tennis courts to enhance accessibility

  • New sports markings during the football off-season

  • Additional seating

  • Biodiversity improvements, such as reseeding grass areas where required

  • Cycle parking stands at the main park entrance on Campdale Road

Proposed Enhancements: These aim to enhance and increase provision in other areas of the park and include:

  • Climbing wall to be retrofitted to the rear wall of the changing rooms with a safety play surface.

  • Relocating the cricket area to the southwest corner of the playing fields to improve sight-lines and access from Huddleston Road.

  • New pétanque court to be located in the grass area to the north of the football pitches.

More information on the enhancements can be found in the ‘Documents’ section on the right hand side of this page.

Next Steps

We want to hear what you have to say about the proposed enhancements (climbing wall/safety surface, cricket pitch, and petanque court). Please let us know by completing the feedback form below by Monday 3rd February 2025 or by contacting us via email at parksprojects@islington.gov.uk.

Your feedback is crucial in shaping the final plans for the park. Once we have gathered and reviewed all the responses, we will finalise the plans and share them with the community, along with the scheduled dates for the improvements to take place.

You can stay updated by checking the posters around the park or visiting this web-page for the latest information.

We value your participation and look forward to your contributions in making Tufnell Park Playing Fields even better!
